In its largest project to date, AgroSci installed 41 green walls — including 36 multi-story systems — and dozens of interior plant installations in the recently opened $1.5 billion addition to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood in Hollywood, Fl.
Thanks to AgroSci, the complex has one of the highest concentrations of indoor green walls in the world. The addition, which features the world’s first guitar-shaped hotel, was one of the nation’s largest construction projects of 2019.
AgroSci Green Walls at the facility include thirty-six 30-foot high installations in the South East Porte Cochere and Oculus, the hotel’s main entrance and lobby, an 80-foot long wall along the building’s exterior and a 50-foot long wall inside the spa.
“I want to thank Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood for the unique opportunity to be a part of this amazing project,” AgroSci President and CEO Chris Pianta said. “This project highlights our flexible and innovative design capabilities. Angles, confined spaces, quirky curves, AgroSci’s experts can accommodate them all with designs that are both practical and aesthetically pleasing. I am very proud of what we have accomplished here.”
In designing the walls, AgroSci successfully integrated them into a water- plant-air design concept that recreates the soothing sensations of nature, Pianta said. That’s in keeping with the concept of biophilia, the idea that human beings are happier, healthier and more productive when they are exposed to nature.
“AgroSci is all about biophilia,” Pianta said. “Working with Seminole Hard Rock, we have created a showcase for biophilia. The winners will be the complex’s guests and employees who will be playing and working in a healthier, cleaner and more hospitable environment.”
In addition to its signature green walls, AgroSci supplied all plantscape installations, including in the spa, the promenade, the executive offices, the Oasis Tower balconies, the Guitar Tower elevator banks and balconies and the Grand Suites. The spa installation includes more than 500 flowering and foliage plants.
In total, AgroSci installed more than 8,000 square feet of living green wall in the complex, a record for the firm in a single project. The walls contain more than 22,000 individual plants of 14 varieties.
Green walls are a fast emerging green technology that increases wellbeing, cleanses the air naturally and lowers temperatures in highly built up areas. Green walls can be installed in- or outdoors and have been shown to reduce stress and increase productivity.
