The inpatient oncology rehabilitation program at Memorial Regional Hospital South has earned full accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Accreditation by CARF, an independent, nonprofit organization focused on advancing the quality of services provided consumers, involves an ongoing process of review, on-site examinations and adherence to rigorous organizational and program standards. It includes specialized training for staff, specific medical protocols and the implementation of policies that demonstrate value, risk management and service delivery with the highest emphasis on patient safety and quality indicators.

“The recognition of our efforts by an organization of this stature is a testament to those who have helped build the oncology rehab program,” said Dr. James Salerno, a board-certified physician who oversees the treatment of post-transplant, cancer and medically complex cases. “We’ve effectively combined advanced medical care and a sophisticated rehab approach that meets the industry’s gold standards and provides life-changing benefits to patients.”

Organizations earn accreditation for a three-year period and must submit yearly reports that detail improvements. According to CARF, the ongoing process “signals a provider’s commitment to continually improving services, encouraging feedback, and serving the community.”
