Enjoy sweet treats and beverages that are not only delicious but nutritious at Mystic Coffee, a new healthy bakery and coffeehouse in Downtown Hollywood.
Ivan Lopez and his wife Agustina Avila, an accomplished home baker now turned professional, opened Mystic Coffee Jan. 2 at 2028 Harrison St., Suite 103.
“Everything is organic, sugar-free and guilt-free,” said Lopez. “And there are also many gluten-free and vegan items.”
Among Mystic Coffee’s many healthy bakery offerings are cookies, cupcakes, cake pops, brownies, blondies, cinnamon rolls, donuts, Key lime pie, banana cake and banana bread that “everybody goes crazy for,” Lopez said.
The coffee selection ($3 to $4) includes espressos, Americanos, cappuccinos, lattes and more.
“It’s not easy to find organic coffee without sugar and also with different types of milk,” Lopez said. “We are one of the only ones that offer coconut milk, almond milk and oat milk.”
Fresh-herb teas are made “in the moment that people ask,” said Lopez, and include green, black, red, white and detox varieties.
Beverages ($3.50 to $5) include mint lemonade, Creativity Tea, chai lattes, iced matcha lattes, turmeric-spiced Gold Milk and yerba mate, made from the naturally caffeinated leaves of a native holly tree species found in South America’s Atlantic Forest.
The menu also features avocado, caprese or melted-brie toasts ($10); quinoa salad, tuna salad and egg green salad ($10); croissant with eggs ($7); oatmeal ($5); cauliflower pizza ($10); quiche ($10); and sandwiches ($10) including egg salad, turkey, tuna melts and veggie burgers.
“So far, everybody is really happy,” Lopez said of customers’ reaction to Mystic Coffee.
One special ingredient that’s not on the menu is what Lopez calls “a touch of mysticism–a very nice and friendly environment where you can feel good and relaxed.”
Lopez, who was a civil engineer in his native Chile before becoming a psychologist and an international business executive, immigrated to the U.S. with his wife in 2016. The couple looked at numerous South Florida locations before deciding to open their new business in Hollywood’s historic downtown arts, music and entertainment district.
“When we came here the first time, we really fell in love with Downtown Hollywood,” Lopez said. “It’s eclectic, and we decided this is the place we want to be.”
Mystic Coffee is open from 9 am to 7 pm Monday – Friday, 10 am to 3 pm Saturday and for special events.
