The Hollywood Commission recently agreed to partner with Recycling Perks to offer a rewards-for-recycling program which will take effect by mid-September.
Reward points from the old Recyclebank program will not carry over with the city’s new recycling incentive partner. Unused points must be redeemed by June 30. During the transition to the new recycling partner, residents are encouraged to continue to recycle.
The City’s recycling program was expanded in 2015 to include mandatory recycling for all new and existing multi-family units and businesses. Because of the rewards program and the additional recycling, more than 9,000 tons of materials were recycled in Hollywood last year.
Beginning in mid-September, all single family, multi-family, and commercial participants will be rewarded “Perk Points” for placing their recycling cart out for weekly collection. Recycling Perks offers reward points to registered users that are redeemable for coupons, discounts and special deals with local vendors, national retailers, restaurants, grocers and more.
The city’s new recycling rewards partner will assign a local Recycling Perks representative to assist with the needs of Hollywood residents. During the year, the local representative will promote the program by participating in neighborhood meetings, environmental awareness campaigns and city-sponsored events.
When a recycling collection truck lifts the recycle cart from a registered user, a signal is sent from the truck to Recycling Perks that the registered user has recycled. And then 25 points will be credited to the user’s account.
