Julie Guy, a radio personality for 101.5 Lite FM who has enjoyed years of career success in radio, gave a presentation at the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce women’s luncheon last week at Memorial Regional Hospital South.
Guy, who grew up and still lives in Hollywood, graduated from South Broward High School. She spoke about the importance of hard work and big dreams in achieving success.
As a child and teenager, Guy worked in her family’s hotel and bakery businesses, but she had different aspirations.
“I wanted to work in radio and be with the rock stars,” she said. Persevering, she was able to gain an internship and then a full-time job in radio. She worked for a number of stations over the years and eventually achieved on-air success.
“I have a strong work ethic and I hate to relax,” she quipped. Even motherhood couldn’t keep her home. After a short stint as a stay-at-home mom, she soon returned to the airwaves.
Guy described some of the challenges she felt that women especially face in pursuing careers. She found that her female colleagues could be particularly tough and demanding. But she persisted and encouraged people in the audience to do the same — work hard, pursue their dreams, and never give up.
