Renovated Terminal 25 Opens, Celebrity Edge Arrives at Port Everglades

Port Everglades celebrated the completion of the renovation of Terminal 25 and the arrival of the new cruise ship the Celebrity Edge.

The Renovation of Terminal 25 cost about $120 million. It is the largest financial investment that Port Everglades has ever made in a cruise terminal. In the past, Port Everglades welcomed on average about 335,000 Celebrity guests each year. This represented about nine percent of overall passenger traffic. Now it is expected that Celebrity will bring about 500,000 travelers to Port Everglades, about 14 percent of the port’s projected passenger traffic.

The original Terminal 25 was built in 1992 at a cost of about $3.2 million. The recent renovation involved replacing two smaller and outdated cruise terminals with an innovative facility that is inspired by the futuristic design of Celebrity Edge and can accommodate the world’s largest cruise ships, up to 1,150 in length. When Celebrity is not using Terminal 25, other cruise lines can use the facility.

The renovated Terminal 25 will mean an estimated 280 direct local jobs. It will generate $7.4 million in state and local taxes.

Terminal 25 was designed by the Architectural firm Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. and constructed by Moss Construction. Port Everglades Seaport Engineering and Facilities Maintenance Division managed the project. Electronic media-mesh for innovative messaging, a 1,463 square foot GKD Mediamesh will wrap the terminal’s exterior juxtaposing the more than 18,000 square foot of outward facing glass. This media mesh signage is also inside the terminal.

The new expedited arrival technology will make the check-in process seamless at Terminal 25. The terminal was designed to be adaptive and features modern pod-style mobile check-in desks.  The Visual Voyage interactive artwork is a unique feature of Terminal 25. The light on this artwork travels along each of the 24 time zones of the global map.
