South Broward High School students who need a swimming pool now have new and improved one.

On May 1, South Broward High School held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new state-of-the art Aquatic Center. The Aquatic Center’s competition sized pool will be used to support South Broward’s athletic and academic programs. This includes the swim teams, water polo teams and South Broward’s Marine Magnet Program. During the summer, swimming lessons will be offered to the community.

Students on the school’s Remote Operated Vehicle Team will also use the pool as a test site for their underwater robot vehicles, which they design and build for student competitions. The Marine Magnet Program has a strong focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Construction on the new aquatic center took about 1.5 years to complete. The school had a pool before, but it had been damaged, according to a statement from South Broward High School.
