South broward has a new band director

South Broward High School’s marching band is off to a fresh start. The band’s new director, Victor Villaorduna, has his eyes set on leading the band to success.

“I want the kids to be happy and I want the band to sound good. I want to bring back a tradition of excellence in the band program,” he said. “The band gives students a sense of family. It is a fun environment for the kids.”

South Broward’s band traditionally preforms at home football games, community events, and assessments. They recently performed at the Tamara James Fun Day.

More importantly, the marching band program is a tight-knit and supportive community.

“When you are in band you have a family and people to support you. I love to perform. I want to pursue a career in music,” stated Emma Watana, the drum major and a flute player. Watana intends to study music in college.

The band members enjoy practicing and performing together. They enjoy spending time together. After their performance at the Tamara James Fun Day, they shared a friendly lunch together.

Hector Pagan, the band captain and a trumpet player, stated, “We are a big family. I love performing at football games and I love playing music.”
