South Broward qualifies for playoffs, faces St. Thomas

The South Broward High School football team is getting ready for the biggest test it will face this season. The Bulldogs will play St. Thomas Aquinas in the first round of the state playoffs.

St. Thomas is considered by many high school football experts to be the best high school football team in the United States.

South Broward Coach Anthony Collins is actually pleased with the situation. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 6-4 record.

They did not win first place in their district. They qualified based on their record and the quality of the teams they played.

“I feel great. We have ended a nine year playoff drought,” said Collins. “We are playing the number one team in the nation. We are going to play the best game we can.”

Top players for South Broward include quarterback Khaleed Wiggins. Tyrell Spivey has done well at center. Keyondre Young has done well as linebacker. Jayquan Jackson, Jaquan Doster, and Jameel Doster are all playing well.

Collins is pleased with the team. During previous seasons, the Bulldogs struggled on the field and the team began to improve this year. There are many good players that will be coming back next season.

“I feel good about this season,” Collins said.
