The South Broward High School wrestling team won the Hollywood Challenge High School Wrestling tournament on January 31. The team hosted this tournament, which included teams from McArthur, Hollywood Hills and Chaminade-Madonna.
Anthony Montanez was 3-0 in his matches in the 113-pound category. “It felt good to win. I love wrestling and I love the competition,” he said.
Joshua Rodriguez was 3-0 in the 120-pound category. “I love the team. It takes a lot of dedication to be a good wrestler,” he said.
Gabriel Fiallo was 3-0 in the 126-pound category. “It is a great feeling to win and I love wrestling,” he said.
South Broward Coach Randy Qualitza was pleased with the win but he would have liked to have seen stronger competition. He was disappointed that some of the teams did not bring full teams. “Wrestling is a very demanding sport. It is a great way to prepare young people for the challenges they will face in life. We need to get more young people interested in wrestling,” he said.
