The Broward County government has just issued a Shelter in Place order that will go into effect on Friday morning at 12:01 a.m. to help fight the spread of coronavirus.
This means that the Broward County government expects all people in the county to remain in their homes except for essential reasons such as grocery shopping, medical visits or some work-related reasons. Only essential businesses such as grocery stories or businesses providing essential services may remain open.
Essential Businesses are defined in Section 3 of the order.
Getting exercise outdoors is permitted as long as ‘social distancing’ practices are adhered to.
Earlier in the day, Commissioner Mark Bogen said he believes this order will help save lives and that is what he cares about. He believes it will protect the large senior population in Broward and even younger people may suffer from COVID-19.
This order was issued by County Administrator Bertha Henry. So far no penalties have been established for people who violate this order.
