Hollywood New Sun Shuttle Exceeds City’s Expectations

Hollywood sun shuttle is very successful

The Hollywood Sun Shuttle program has exceeded expectations and the city is in the process of adding more vehicles. A presentation was made on the success of Sun Shuttle during a recent commission meeting.

There are now eight Sun Shuttle vehicles in operation and that number will increase to 12 in November. The Sun Shuttle serves AIA up and down from Hollywood Boulevard to Dania Beach Boulevard, U.S. from Pembroke Road to Sheridan Street and the historic downtown area/CRA district. It connects the downtown to beach along Hollywood Boulevard.

People can use and app to signal they need a ride or they can flag down a vehicle. The ride is free and each vehicle holds five passengers. It began in April and has given 21,156 rides.

The vehicles are electrically powered and this reduces the carbon foot print.

The shuttles operate Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

“The Sun Shuttles have been very successful,” said Joann Hussey, spokesperson for Hollywood.

If the services continues to attract many riders, it may have to add more vehicles.
