The Jubilee Center of South Broward is a soup kitchen, food pantry and social services agency meeting the needs of the hungry for more than a quarter of a century. Located at 2020 Scott Street in Hollywood, it serves more than 3,000 hot meals a month to those who desperately need a nourishing meal and provides social service assistance each month to four hundred families and individuals.
During the holidays, the Center also provides Thanksgiving baskets filled with all the trimmings to families with children whom they fear will not have a Thanksgiving meal. As monetary and food subsidies have been cut this year for those who need it most, the Center and the families they service need your assistance.
Here’s how you can help: below is a Thanksgiving Wish List of items needed to fill the baskets. Please review it and decide if and what you are capable of giving. Then collect the items ASAP (you may make your own baskets if you’d like) and contact the center at 954-920-0106. They will pick up the items if necessary.
Thanksgiving Basket Wish List
- A sturdy foil pan to roast the turkey
- A gift card to purchase the turkey
- A box of Stove Top Dressing
- A jar of Turkey Gravy
- A can of Yams (sweet potatoes)
- A box of brown sugar
- A small bag of marshmallows
- A box of mashed potato mix (optional)
- A can of green beans
- A can of cream of mushroom soup
- A can of fried onion rings
- A can of cranberries
- A package of dinner rolls
- A dessert – pies would be great
Whatever extra you think would add to the enjoyment, please include it. The Center will provide directions for the yams and green bean casserole.
The deadline for delivering the items is Wednesday, November 20th. This will give the center needed time to make the baskets for distribution on Tuesday, November 24th. Please do not wrap your basket, in case they have additional items for each basket. (Wouldn’t that be wonderful!) Please share this information with as many as you can! These baskets will bless many families in need.
The Jubilee Center serves because there is a NEED, and they thank you for providing some extra help for some very poor people.
If you would like to help further, the Jubilee Center soup kitchen is open Monday through Friday and serves complete meals to approximately 150 people each day. Volunteers are always needed, especially those who can serve on a regular basis. This is an excellent project for church groups, service organizations, or individuals.
