The Kids Are Alright

Sophia and Francesca are evidence of the apple not falling far from the
tree. And when your father is artist Daniel Pontet; why that’s no small
feet—ah, feat (yes, pun intended).

Sophia (12) and Francesca (9) are both students at the Hollywood Academy
of Arts & Science. Both are bilingual (English/Spanish), both are athletic
(Sophia is a member of the volleyball team while Francesca is a member of the Gymnastic
team) and both have been practicing artists since their post diaper days…

“We were encouraged to be creative since we were tots,” beams Sophia
while Francesca nods in earnest agreement. “And while our dad has encouraged
us, he mostly just supplied the materials and allowed us to do our thing—waiting
for us to seek him out for comments or tips or whatever.”

The sisters have had opportunities that most art inclined kids don’t have.

“Because our dad exhibits so frequently and in so many diverse venues we’ve
been exposed to so many musicians, artist and dancers…”

“And we’ve got to travel a lot” adds Francesca…

As proof of their pedigree, proud Papa Pontet boasts, “Sophia was 4-years
old when she sold her first painting in New York City. Francesca was a late
bloomer, she didn’t sell her first work until she was five—that was at the
Miami Latin American Art Museum!”
