Boxing is back—yep, the “Sweet Science” has found a venerable
venue in American Legion Post 92 (21st between Tyler and Polk). A
Hollywood landmark since 1948, Post 92 (known as the Friendly Post) recently
hosted an amalgamation of amateur boxers from South Florida.
Turning their parking lot into an outdoor arena,
Post 92, under the new command of Guy Pagan (a gent with a pugilistic pedigree)
had kids swinging for the stars under the lights and with much fanfare and
bravado!
Boxing notables Glen Johnson and Shannon Briggs showed
their support as did a host of fight-fans including local artist Cindy “Boom Boom” Podgorski
who was covering the squared-circle cavalcade for Dog House Boxing.
Needless to say, the event was a hit!
