How to Remove “What’s Happening” from Twitter
October 30, 2024
—
Enjoy staying up to date with the latest events and trends? Twitter can help by keeping you informed about what’s happening worldwide. Yet, being a fan of current events doesn’t necessarily mean loving the “What’s Happening” section on your Twitter home page.
This tab displays current events related to accounts you follow, and while some may interest you, you might prefer not seeing them immediately upon logging in.
Is there a way to remove them? Continue reading for more information.
How to Remove the What’s Happening Section
You might think you have control over what appears on your Twitter home page, but that isn’t entirely accurate. Twitter automatically adds certain sections based on what they think you would enjoy, such as “What’s Happening,” which showcases trending news and events.
These sections could appear at the top of your Twitter home page or as sidebar panels. If you’re unsure about why a specific event is shown, you can click or tap the down arrow next to it for details.
Fortunately, you can hide an event if you are uninterested. However, this may not prevent Twitter from showing you similar events, so it isn’t a complete solution.
The solution lies in a Chrome extension that can remove unwanted sections from your Twitter feed, allowing you to focus solely on tweets. The extension, called Google.com/webstore/detail/tweak-new-twitter/kpmjjdhbcfebfjgdnpjagcndoelnidfj?hl=en” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Tweak New Twitter, can be installed in seconds.
With this extension, you can tailor your Twitter experience and utilize the chronological timeline to view the latest tweets first. You also have the option to hide suggestions from Twitter, like the “Who to Follow” or “What’s Happening” sections.
How to Unfollow a Topic on Twitter
If you find yourself following too many topics on Twitter and can’t keep up, you may want to unfollow some. Follow these steps to do so.
- Select your profile picture.
- From the menu that opens, tap or click “Topics.”
- You’ll see the list of topics you’re following, so find the one you want to remove and select “Unfollow.”
Unfollowing a topic isn’t limited to the above steps; you can also do it from your home timeline.
- Find a tweet related to the topic you want to remove.
- At the top of the tweet, locate the down arrow icon and select it.
- Choose “Unfollow” from the menu.
