A group of volunteers got together at McNicol Middle School recently to build a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) outdoor classroom.
Using a grant awarded by HandsOn Broward and funded by the Florida Panthers. Office personnel from the Panthers and members of HandsOn Broward installed 75 native plants on the campus.
Cadence, Landscape Architects designed the new green space area and McNicol students who are part of Unity 4Teens helped with the work, along with McNicol administrators and teachers.
Lauren Simone, director of the Florida Panthers Fund runs the charitable effort of the Panthers. She is pleased that the Panthers have partnered with HandsOn Broward. The Fund distributes $25,000 at each home game for its Community Champions grant program. McNicol was one of the lucky beneficiaries of this program.
Stephanie Dunn with Cadence, Landscape Architects designed the outdoor classroom. “We want to help the students here and provide the school with native plants,” she said.
Melissa Gurreane, McNicol’s principal said, “We are creating an outdoor learning space and this will beautify our campus.” she said.
