Work is beginning on sidewalk project in North Central neighborhood

A land survey is about to begin in the North Central Neighborhood as part of the Florida Safe Route to School Sidewalk Project.

This program helps communities fund projects to improve their transportation needs and encourages more students to walk or bike to school. The Safe Route to School program focuses on children in grades kindergarten through high school. The projects are designed for pedestrians and bicyclists.

As part of the 2016 Safe Route to School Grant program, the Florida Department of Transportation will be funding approximately $517,000 in sidewalk improvements in the North Central neighborhood of Hollywood. The reimbursable funds were recently made available for use in this Fiscal Year, and work is now set to begin.

The scope of the project consists of about 13,225 linear feet of new 5-foot wide concrete sidewalks to fill in missing links along 26 different blocks of City streets within the North Central Neighborhood. The project area is within the proximity of Avante Garde Academy of Broward, Oakridge Elementary School, Beachside Montessori School and Dowdy Field.
